Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

Brixl ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have when you use the Brixl platform.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: name, email address, phone number, and join date.

Profile Information (visibility controlled by your Privacy settings): profile picture, account type (individual or company), location (city/state/country — see Section 5), bio, title and years of experience, certifications, work history, education, and portfolio images or a résumé if you choose to add them.

Messages: messages and attachments you send to other users on the platform.

Device and technical information: if you allow notifications on a phone, a notification token so we can send them to your device. Our servers also record technical details such as your IP address and browser or device type, which we use to keep the service secure and working.

Information from the previous Brixl app: if you had an account on the previous version of Brixl, we carried over the information stored in that account (such as your name, email address, phone number, profile details, certifications, work history, education, and company details) so you can reclaim your account and transfer your profile to this app. When you sign up with the email address linked to your previous account, we show you this information during setup and you choose what to bring over; anything you do not choose is not added to your profile. Passwords from the previous app were not carried over.

We never see or store your account password in readable form — sign-in is handled by our authentication provider (Firebase), not by Brixl directly.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to create and maintain your account, connect you with relevant job opportunities or candidates, operate and improve the platform, respond to feedback, send important account and platform updates, and prevent fraud, misuse, or abuse. We do not send marketing or promotional messages.

3. Data Sharing

Brixl does not sell your personal data. We share information only with the service providers that help us operate the platform (listed in Section 8, and only to the extent each needs to perform its function), when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Brixl or our users.

4. Messages & User Content

Messages are stored so the messaging feature works and so both participants keep a record of the conversation. Files attached to messages are deleted automatically 14 days after they are sent; the message then shows that the attachment has expired. We do not routinely monitor or review message content. We may access message content where necessary to investigate a reported violation of our Terms of Service, respond to a legal request, or protect the safety of our users.

5. Location Information

Location is used to show you relevant, nearby job opportunities and to help employers find candidates in their area. When you select a location, we store its coordinates to power this matching — but only your approximate location (city, state/province, country) is ever shown to other users or displayed on your profile, and only if you choose to share it in your Privacy settings. We do not track your real-time location, and we never share your precise coordinates with other users.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers with restricted access. We use industry-standard authentication to verify your identity, and access to company data is controlled by role-based permissions. We take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Files you upload (profile photos, portfolio images, résumés and message attachments) are kept with our file-storage provider. Each file is reached through a private link, which we only share with the people it is meant for — for example, your résumé with employers you apply to, or an attachment with the person you sent it to. Anyone who has been given a file's link can open that file, and making your profile private does not cancel links that were already shared.

7. Your Rights & Control

You can access and update most of your profile information at any time. Your Privacy settings let you control who can see your location and your follower/following lists, and whether you accept messages only from mutual connections — including a private-profile mode that hides your identity from search and other users entirely. You can delete your account at any time; deletion deactivates your account immediately, and you have 30 days to change your mind by signing back in before it becomes permanent (see Section 10).

Deleting a company works differently: it takes effect right away, with no 30-day window, and the company’s contact email, logo, website, and social links are removed at that moment.

You can also ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it — see Section 14. We do not send marketing communications.

8. Service Providers & Hosting

Brixl relies on these service providers to run the platform:

  • Amazon Web Services — our servers and database (hosted in Canada).
  • Google Firebase — sign-in, and storage of the files you upload.
  • Stripe — company subscription payments. Brixl never stores your payment card details.
  • Google Maps Platform — looking up and standardizing the places you search for.
  • Sentry — error reports from our servers, so we can find and fix problems.
  • Expo — delivering notifications to the Brixl mobile app.

Each provider receives only the information it needs to do its job. We do not use third-party advertising or behavioral analytics tools, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

9. Cookies & On-Device Storage

Brixl does not use advertising or tracking cookies. To keep you signed in and remember settings such as your theme, the Brixl website and app save a small amount of information in your browser’s or device’s own storage. Signing out clears your sign-in information; you can also clear this storage at any time through your browser or device settings.

10. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, it is deactivated immediately and can be reactivated within 30 days. After that window, your personally identifying information (name, email, phone number, profile photo, and similar details) is permanently anonymized. Some records that involve other people — such as a job application you submitted or messages you exchanged — are kept in anonymized form after this point, since fully removing them would also erase the other person’s own legitimate record of that activity (for example, an employer’s record that you applied to their job). Message attachments are deleted after 14 days (see Section 4), and a deleted company’s contact details are removed immediately (see Section 7).

11. Children’s Privacy

Brixl is intended for users who are at least 16 years of age, consistent with our Terms of Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we learn that we have collected information from a user under 16, we will take steps to delete it.

12. Data Location

Parts of Brixl’s technology stack and the services it uses are hosted in Canada and the United States, and some providers, such as Stripe and Google, operate globally. This means your information may be stored or processed outside Canada (and, for Quebec residents, outside Quebec). While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement, or national security authorities. We choose providers that maintain appropriate safeguards for handling personal information.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated directly within the Brixl app, and the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

14. Privacy Officer, Requests & Contact
